Materials
To do a proper packing job for your overseas removals you will need the right materials. Boxes, wrapping paper, bubble wrap for fragile items, wardrobe boxes, wooden crates for fine art or antiques, bubble blankets, markers, envelopes for storing nuts and bolts, tape and a utility knife are among the items you should begin collecting as soon as you know that you are moving.
Start packing early
You can never begin the packing process for an international move early enough. One of the reasons for this is that you should give yourself enough time to be able to unload those items that you don’t plan on taking with you. For instance, if you are not going to take your car or your couch, then you should have enough time to be able to sell them before your leave. Also, by starting your packing early, you will be able to de-clutter at the same time and weed through the things you plan on taking, those items that will go into storage and those things that you can give away.
Be methodical
Proper packing requires you to pack logically, which means that you should pack one room at a time. Start with the room that you use the least such as a guest bedroom, the store room or your attic. As you get closer to your move date you can begin packing the more commonly used areas of your home. Each time you pack a room make sure that you clearly label all of the boxes so that you will be able to tell at a glance what is in the box. In order to be even more organized you can use colour coding or make detailed lists that correspond to your numbered boxes.
Make things easy
In order to make things easier for your overseas removal company, you should always keep a numbered packing list of everything you are shipping since this list will be required by customs officials and even by your mover. Every one of your boxes should furthermore bear your consignees name, the job reference number that you will be give by your moving company, the destination of the boxes and the item number. You should keep a copy of all such documentation for yourself as well. It is also highly recommended to keep a list of all your big-ticket items along with their serial numbers in case of loss or damage.
By starting early and by being organized, planning and preparing for your overseas removal should be stress-free and easy.
